Questions
- Does it upload my files anywhere?
- No. Your documents are files on your computer, and Publisher files are converted right there too.
- Where are my documents?
- In files you save, like Publisher's: Save puts a .foldsheet file wherever you choose, and Open a file brings it back. On Chrome, Edge and Chromebooks, Foldsheet writes straight to the file as you work. On Safari and Firefox, Save downloads it.
- Does it work on a Mac or a Chromebook?
- Yes. Chrome, Edge and Chromebooks save straight to the file, like Publisher did. Safari and Firefox can't, so Save downloads a copy each time. On a Mac, Chrome is the better experience.
- Can Safari or Firefox replace the file instead of making copies?
- Only if you tell the browser to ask where each download goes. Safari: Settings, General, File download location, "Ask for each download". Firefox: Settings, General, Downloads, "Always ask you where to save files". Save then shows a dialog where you can pick the same file and choose Replace. Chrome and Edge don't need any of this.
- Will my Publisher file look exactly the same?
- Close, and editable. Positions, sizes, pictures and colors come across. Fonts you don't have are swapped for look-alikes with the same widths, so lines break in the same places. A note lists everything that changed so you can check.
- What about text that flows from one box to another?
- Each box keeps its own text, exactly as it appeared. The link between boxes isn't kept yet.
- How do I make a PDF?
- Choose Print, then pick "Save as PDF" as the printer. Print shops and bulletin services take PDF.
- Where is my document if I switch computers?
- It's a file. Keep it in a OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox folder, email it to yourself or put it on a USB stick, then Open a file on the other computer.
- Can I use pictures and files from OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox?
- Yes. Once their app is installed, those folders are on your computer like any other, so Open a file and Insert picture reach them directly.
- We are several people in the office. Do we each buy it?
- You can, at $19.99 each, once. Or the office subscribes: Office is $19.99 a month for up to 5 people, School is $49 a month for up to 25, and everyone you add is unlocked on their own computer. The first 30 days are free, with no card.
- What happens when an organisation's trial or subscription ends?
- Nothing is deleted and nobody loses a document; documents are files on your computers. The Publisher unlock for the members pauses until the organisation subscribes again.
- Can I have it as an app with its own icon?
- Yes. In Chrome or Edge, click the install icon at the right end of the address bar, or choose Install Foldsheet from the browser menu. On a Mac, Safari's File menu has Add to Dock. It's the same site in its own window with an icon; nothing is downloaded, and your files open and save exactly the same way.
